evening grosbeak

One of maybe 60 or 70 frequenting the @saxzimnbog bird feeders. A feast and famine situation is apparently fueling their large southward movement. Unusually high numbers of spruce budworms, a Grosbeak delicacy fueled a population bloom through the spring and summer. The boreal forest’s seed production cycles naturally, and this happens to be a low year. When the budworms ran out, seeds were hard to find forcing the southern movement. Hopefully I got that right ~ I’m a photographer first, birder…. well not really😉
